Quilt Preparation Tips

image1

A few important points for preparing your quilt for best results

  • Press your quilt top and backing
  • Trim all loose threads
  • If your quilt top or backing are directional, indicate top
  • Do not pin, baste or mark quilt top
  • Make sure quilt top is flat and square, with no wavy edges
  • Make sure backing is flat and square
  • Backing and batting MUST be a minimum of 4" larger than the quilt top on all sides
  • Please, no sheets for backing

How to apply borders

Measure the quilt top lengthwise through the center and along both edges. Average the three measurements. Cut your border fabric length the average measurement. Mark the center and quarter points of the quilt top and the border fabric. Match markings and pin your border fabric to the sides of the top. Sew the border to the top. Repeat for the top and bottom borders. Applying borders in this manner helps avoid wavy borders and pleats or puckers when quilting.
